A B’nai Mitzvah ceremony is a statement of dedication to a future of Jewish living & Jewish study. Here at Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue, the Rabbi & Cantor work with each B’nai Mitzvah student and their family to ensure that each ceremony is unique and special. We know that this is a time of both happiness and challenge.
Basic Prerequisites:
The B’nai Mitzvah must be at least 13 years of age.
The family of the B’nai Mitzvah must attend the orientation held in the fall prior to the student’s B’nai Mitzvah date.
The family of the B’nai Mitzvah must be members in good standing, with membership dues, school tuition & the B’nai Mitzvah fee paid in full.
The student must be enrolled in MJC&S Religious School for 2 years prior to the B’nai Mitzvah ceremony.
The student must be in good academic standing at the time of the B’nai Mitzvah ceremony.
The B’nai Mitzvah student will receive his/her Torah & Haftorah portions and a study cassette & CD. Private tutoring with the Cantor will begin approximately 6 months prior the B’nai Mitzvah date. Tutoring consists of 24 private sessions, each for a 30 minute duration, once a week.
We know that a decision to have a B’nai Mitzvah ceremony is very important. It is an example of hard work and dedication and of family commitment to Judaism. We at MJC&S look forward to celebrating this simcha!
