Spring 2010
What’s New at our Preschool?
We extend a big welcome to our new students Jaden, Max and Jayden. They are enjoying their first experience with our one of a kind art studio.
Art without Borders continues in our Art Studio where the children are working with all types of materials and mediums. For the preschool child, the freedom to use materials, without restriction, always leads to greater levels of creativity and understanding. Teacher Yael is introducing the techniques of Michelangelo, Monet, DaVinci and Van Gogh. Please stop by and see the very large (7’ by 4’) canvas which is a beautiful work in progress.
“Brown Bear Brown Bear” is a favorite book with the 2 year olds. They are mixing their own colors to make a brown bear, purple horse and green frog. They are using their fingers, sponges, brushes, sticks, cotton balls and anything they can find to mix colors.
Right now we are learning about the wonderful world of animals. The teachers are busy answering children’s questions about which animals hibernate, where they hibernate and what they eat. The children are working together to construct a place for their animals to live. The children have decided that some of the animals live in beautiful castles that have been constructed out of toilet rolls, small boxes, water bottles, and other recycled materials. In April we will witness the life cycle of the butterfly.
Spring has sprung, the sun is shining and we are moving back outdoors. Our children are enjoying the upgrades to our playground. With helmets on heads the children enjoy zipping around the refreshed tricycle path. Our staff is positioned throughout the yard to provide safety and encouragement as our children build muscles and maximize their physical abilities. Spring is a time for imagination; our playground and gardens are alive with the beauty of nature and filled with the laughter of our children.
Our preschoolers are hard at work in the garden; digging, shoveling, seeding and don’t forget the watering. We will soon be eating our organic vegetables. It’s wonderful to see our children taking responsibility every day as they watch their garden grow. They have found many interesting bugs. With a magnifying glass in hand the children are learning about the bugs and reptiles in their own back yard
We now begin the preparation for Passover (The Festival of Freedom). The children will be singing the Passover songs and making the symbols of Passover for our Model Seder on March 26th. Our 3 and 4 year olds will be going to the Matzah Factory where they will make their own matzah and hear the story of Passover.
We always end our week with lighting the Shabbat candles and singing with Cantor Marcelo |
